Delineate Your Dwelling / Designer Trapped in a Lawyer’s Body / Upcyled Treasure / The Gathered Home / Bigger Than the Three of Us
This week’s challenge store was The Land of Nod which I was super excited about. Designing with my kids in mind is one of my favorite ways to decorate. I chose to appropriate these lettered pillow covers. For this project, I used a white pillowcase, acrylic paints and fabric medium. After drawing the letters lightly with pencil, I mixed up some fabric paint. My particular fabric medium calls for two parts acrylic paint to one part fabric medium. I just recently started experimenting with mixing my own fabric paints and I am completely hooked! I will definitely be keeping some fabric medium in my crafting arsenal from now on.Before you start painting, make sure to put something in between your pillow cover so the paints won’t bleed through. This is always a necessary step when using fabric paint otherwise the paint will act as a glue and hold both sides of your pillow cover together. Then I painted in the letters. I say it all the time here it is again: when you want to paint straight lines, drag down. I picked this tip up in one of my many undergrad art courses and it has served me well ever since.I chose my kids initials, a plus sign, and my own initial. This font is reminiscent of those neon lettered signs to me. It’s whimsical, fun and a totally perfect addition to a play room or kids room.If you’re a The Land of Nod lover like myself, be sure to check out some of these other adapted projects.
painted lampshade / monogram wall art / modern floor lamp / owl nightlight / nautical flag banner / mine!
Some of these projects I seriously considered doing myself so it was extra fun seeing how everyone’s projects panned out this month. Next month we’re adapting another favorite store of mine, CB2!
